Our History

"D&R Autoworks has been servicing the city of Highland Park and surrounding areas for over 20 years. Starting out in downtown Highland Park the business quickly grew and in less than 8 years its downtown location with only four bays was too small to service our growing customer base. We are currently located at our 10,000 square foot facility at 2366 Skokie Valley Rd. "

Owner Dan Buss has spent his entire life on the North Shore in the Auto Service Industry. Growing up in a family that was in the Auto Parts Business, Dan knew at an early age that he had a passion and love for cars. In his early teens Dan spent his afternoons helping around various gas stations cleaning up and observing the servicing of vehicles. After High School he worked full time during the day at various gas stations and repair centers, while attending college at night. While working during the day and taking classes at night day he learned the ins and outs of the automotives business. Every shop he worked at he learned more about how he wanted his shop to operate and how he wanted to service his cliental. Dan spent many years servicing vehicles, and through his extensive mechanical knowledge of automobiles he became an expert diagnostician. Eventually he made his way out of the backroom applying his knowledge of automobiles along with excellent customer service skills straight to the counter providing his customers the knowledge to properly service their vehicles.

During the move from the downtown location to the current location, Dan became partner of the company and 3 years later became sole owner. It has been his hard work and understanding of not only vehicles, but an understanding of how to treat his customers to the highest level possible, that has made D&R Autoworks successful.
In 2002 Dan decided to spend more time in the office working on the nuts and bolts of the operation and brought in General Manager Gabriel Castaneda. Both of them have spent endless hours discussing and making changes in the business to make it better and better as every years goes by. A day doesn’t go by in the business that you won’t see one or even both of them behind the counter or in the back room assisting customers or the service technicians. The two of them work seamlessly together, always knowing what the others ideas are and in a lot of cases even finishing each others sentences. It has been the dedication of Gabriel and the commitment of Dan, to always go above and beyond when servicing a customer and their vehicle, and to continue to train and stay on top of the industry and its changes.
